Your first hour

What happens at your first visit

A full hour with your therapist, start to finish. Nothing is decided without you.

  1. Step 1: Before you arrive

A few days before, we send your estimate, the address, parking and a link to our secure intake form.

  2. Step 2: We start by listening

What you do, what hurts, what you have tried and what you want to get back to.

  3. Step 3: We look at how you move

Posture, strength, range and the movements that bother you. We explain what we find as we go.

  4. Step 4: You try the first steps

A few exercises and, if you want it, hands-on care. We explain the risks and your choices first.

  5. Step 5: We agree on a plan

What to do between visits, what decides how many visits you need and when we will check in.

Getting ready

What to wear and bring

You do not need to prepare anything else. If something is on your mind, bring it. We start with your questions.

  • Clothes you can move in: shorts for a knee or hip, a tank or sports top for a shoulder

  • The shoes you run, lift or work in, if they are part of the problem

  • Notes from your doctor or surgeon, and any imaging reports you have

  • A list of what you take, if you would like us to know

A bright treatment room with tall windows, a wooden table and a therapist working with a client in the distance

Not on day one

What we do not decide at your first visit

  • How many visits you will need

That depends on how you respond. We tell you what decides it, and we check in as you go.

  • Whether you need imaging

We tell you what we find, and if we think imaging or a physician makes sense, we say so.

  • Anything you are unsure about

You can take the plan home and call us. We do not rush a yes.
